History

The Borough of West Homestead incorporated on January 29, 1901 and located in the historic Steel Valley of Western Pennsylvania, is a community of 2,493 residents, located just six miles from Downtown Pittsburgh. Because of its prime location, adjacent to bustling Pittsburgh, the borough of West Homestead has once again become a focal point for the business community through the Continental Estate Waterfront Development. Located along the Monogahela River, The Waterfront is a 300-acre mixed use development spanning three Boroughs -Munhall, Homestead and West Homestead. The Development of the West Homestead portion of The Waterfront has begun in grand fashion. The first component of the development is the Lowes Cineplex. This multi screen theatre located in West Homestead is the crown jewel of The Waterfront development.
West Homestead can point with pride to what has happened in the past 98 years. The Borough has been blessed with able and dedicated public servants. This applies equally to elected and appointed officials whose keen insights have demonstrated time and again their concern for the community and its people.
Police and fire protection have kept pace with the times. Street maintenance in every section of the borough is second to none in Pennsylvania. As the transition from then to now came about, the Borough of West Homestead has kept pace with the times.
