Public Safety Services

Waterfront Training Facility

Steel Valley Council of Governments in cooperation with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office renovated the old Homestead train station to establish a state of the art training center.  Through support from the Municipal Police Officer’s Education & Training Commission (MPOETC) and the Allegheny County Chiefs of Police Association, the training center has become a tremendous resource for safety services personnel.

In addition, the facility is rented on the weekends by Point Park College and Penn State University-McKeesport to bring education and training to the Mon Valley communities.

EAGLE-One -- Mobile Crime Unit

Steel Valley Council of Governments, Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office and Allegheny County Coroner’s Office, in cooperation with Twin Rivers Council of Governments and Turtle Creek Valley Council of Governments formed a project to gather community resources and purchase EAGLE-One, a Crime Scene Investigation unit dedicated to the Mon Valley communities.  This is an invaluable law enforcement tool that most municipalities could not afford on their own, but together eleven (11) Mon Valley municipalities pooled local funds for this state-of-the-arts CSI unit.   To facilitate usage of EAGLE-One, Point Park College developed a curriculum of training for the utilization of the CSI Unit.
