Siniawski Center for Governmental Cooperation

The Steel Valley Council of Governments in 1981, through a County grant, purchased the old Homestead High School. Over the years, with all grant funding, millions of dollars in renovations have gone into the Human Service Center. The Steel Valley Council of Governments is the only COG in Allegheny County to own a facility.
The SVCOG dedicated the facility in June of 2001 to its former President of the Board Raymond Siniawski. Mr. Siniawski served as President of the Steel Valley COG since its inception in 1973 to his death in 2001. The SVCOG Human Service Center is currently 100% leased to non-profit organizations that provide many services to the area's residents, especially educational and job-training programs. Current Tenants in SVCOG Human Service Center are: Allegheny Intermediate Unit: Louise Childcare, Family Center, Early Childhood Initiative, Headstart; Borough of Homestead; Early Learning Center; MUSA (Methodist Union of Social Agencies) and Turtle Creek Valley Mental Health/Mental Retardation. MUSA provides childcare services, early learning and kindergarten preparation for children ages birth to five years. These services are provided to residents of the Steel Valley area, which consists of Homestead, Munhall and West Homestead, based on income criteria. The new courtyard playground is a pilot project for Allegheny Intermediate Unit which will be used as a prototype for other centers.
